Allen Shapiro (1932 – 1987),  aka A. Jay, was one of the most prominent gay illustrators and cartoonists of the 1960‘s, 70‘s and 80‘s.  He is credited with the creation of the first gay comic strip ever, “The Adventures of Harry Chess: The Man from A.U.N.T.I.E.” Known for his work as the Art Editor of the gay leather magazine Drummer
